Kezia Koroma, Housing Officer
Meet The Team
Toaha Qureshi MBE – Chief Executive Officer
Toaha was appointed as the Interim Chief Executive in late 2018. He has an extensive background in housing, education, community development and rehabilitation. He was previously Chairman of the Board and is currently leading the organisation to new horizons by reinvigorating its approach to tackling the housing crisis. He has been active in the housing sector for two decades, sitting on boards for various BAME housing associations.
Mr. Qureshi is Member of the Order of The British Empire after being conferred an MBE by Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II for services rendered for community relations. His other recognitions include the Lambeth Civic Award and the British Community Honours Award.
Kezia Koroma MSc – Housing Officer
Kezia joined the Association in May 2005 and deals with the day to day admin activities. Kezia has an MSc in Mathematics and a BSc in Mathematics & Computing Mathematics. She leads on a series of activities including managing tenant rent accounts, dealing with housing matters, handling tenant maintenance requests, universal credit and housing benefit applications, etc.
Kezia likes to give back to the community by volunteering at her local Church.
Joseph Takor MA, LLB – Team Leader
Joseph joined Ash-Shahada in May 2021 as a Team Leader. He has an MA in Applied Linguistics and a Bachelor’s degree in Law. His role is to coordinate staff daily activities, contractor works, and meetings. He also deals with complaints, queries, requests for information, and he has the responsibility to review organisational policies in various areas. Before joining Ash-Shahada, Joseph mentored university students in diverse fields of study through writing development and research.
Joseph has a wealth of experience in the legal field, having volunteered at a local charity in Camberwell supporting refugees in their cases to secure immigration rights and status in the UK. He has a keen interest in mediation and pastoral support for tenants which has been honed through his role as a Eucharistic minister at his local Catholic Church at Our Lady and Saint Joseph, Dalston Kingsland. Joseph has also volunteered in training some community groups in London in advocacy work to secure funding from organisations/foundations, including HIV/AIDS.
Ayea Barley – Admin Officer
Ayea joined the Association in 2006 as a volunteer as is now a part time staff member. She holds a degree in International Tourism Management and has previously worked in frontline customer service roles. She works with tenants to ensure that they are keeping up with their rent, dealing with tenant enquiries and requests and new tenant applications.
Ayea gives back to her community by helping out a fortnightly food bank to help set up and distribute food to the needy. She also helps out with a local Sunday school.
Azeem Suleman – Compliance Officer
Azeem joined the Association in November 2021. He is a graduate professional with a wealth of technical and business experience acquired through demanding roles. He has a broad range of skills in Compliance, IT, Marketing and Business. He previously worked for the Police, NHS and Guardian Media Group.
He has experience in Charity and Community work as a founder of charitable organisation in 2010 which continues to be active in supporting the local communities in Birmingham with important aspects such as food banks, tackling poverty, bereavement and funeral support etc. From this work he has gained a wide experience in working with the Community, Social Services, Supported Housing, Local Councillors, NHS, Red Cross, Cruse and many other organisations. Azeem is based in the Midlands where he carries out compliance checks on the properties as well as systems data compliance.
Azeem gives back to the community by supporting people with bereavement and helping out with food distribution at food banks.
Umar Mahmood LLM, MA – Director Operations
Umar joined Ash Shahada in 2018. He brings a wealth of management experience from the higher education sector having spent over a decade in senior positions including managing student accommodation and a student base of over 3000 further and higher education students. His most recent role was as the Quality Assurance Provider Facilitator, managing a yearlong quality review for the organisation consecutively for three years with outstanding results. Umar is leading on the supported exempt accommodation project in Midlands to tackle the lack of housing for the homeless and vulnerable.
Umar gives back to his community on a regular basis with emphasis on interfaith harmony, peace and community development. Among his many roles, he is a Guest Lecturer at the King’s College of London, Governor for the Lambeth Nursery Schools’ Federation and Children’s Centres, Mentor for Mosaic (Prince of Wales Charity) and Member of the Independent Advisory Group for Lambeth Metropolitan Police. He has also been a form Advisory Board Member (London) for the national charity Tell MAMA. Umar has been recognised for his work by Sir Ken Olisa (Lord Lieutenant of Greater London), Helen Hayes MP, Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP and others.
Musah Danlami Nasiru MSc, BA, CMi – SAP Coordinator
Dan joined the team in November 2012. He holds a MSc in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability and a BA in Business Management, both from London Metropolitan University. He is currently working closely with the Director as the Exempt Accommodation Scheme Coordinator as a direct contact point for the council, support providers and tenants.
He is the main point of contact for our residents at the hostel and continues to provide an invaluable out of hour’s service to the residents.
Saleh Gafo BAAF – SAP Assistant
Saleh joined the Organisation in October 2021. He is an AAT technician and a qualified accountant holding a degree in Accounting and Finance from London Southbank University. He works closely with the management and finance department to assist and provide an effective and efficient support service. His main duties are to handle queries from the Council with regards to support notes and further documentation. He also liaises with partners on their schedules and tenants.
A strong believer in giving back to the community, Saleh is well known for volunteering his time towards areas such as education, coaching, helping the vulnerable, job hunting, health and independent living.
Abdelkader Khiar – Finance Officer
Abdelkader is a finance professional who holds a postgraduate diploma in leadership and management. He has previously held senior manager positions in finance and has provided consultancy services for over 15 years. He is currently in charge of the finance at Ash-Shahada and is responsible for rent arrears, His roles include finance manager for a private college, senior community development for a charity as well as trustee and treasurer for the Southwark Educational Project between 2006 and 2010.
Abdelkader is active in his community helping refugees, asylum seekers, young children and the disadvantaged. He volunteers as a tuition teacher in his local commuinity .
Ayeshah Issah – Caretaker
Ayeshah joined the Association in October 2020 and providing essential day to day cleaning and management at our Camberwell Hostel.
Mitzi Isaacs – retired 2020
Mitzi joined Ash-Shahada in 2013 when the organisation took over the Raglan Court estate. Mitzi has years of experience as a support worker and a scheme manager. Mitzi works part time with the organisation to ensure that tenants are Raglan Court are being looked after and they are keeping up with their rent.
Akem Agbere – Caretaker – retired 2020
Akem has been a member of the team since February 2005 and continues to provide essential day-to-day cleaning service for the hostel.

Mitzi Isaacs, who retired in 2020, said: “my thanks and appreciation to all the staff and the Chairman for your time, kindness, warm and generous good wishes and lovely gifts for my retirement. I have enjoyed my time working with you all and have been missing the warm, caring family like environment of the office.”
Volunteer With Us!
Volunteers are a vital link in helping support our tenants and staff. By offering a helping hand you could help enrich our resident’s lives in countless ways. By getting involved and being a friendly face that the tenants can talk and interact with, it can provide them with a much-needed boost into their lives.
We are always looking for volunteers to help in activities with our residents in and around Birmingham and London. If you’re a friendly and confident person that’s looking to get involved with the vibrant community, then please get in touch to help us support the vulnerable.
You can volunteer for the day or for just a few hours. Our activities can range from helping organise fun days, street parties or transporting tenants for a day out.
A registered social landlord, providing housing through hostels, flats and houses in Lambeth, Southwark, Birmingham and Dudley. Ash-Shahada is a Muslim-led housing association the first of its kind to be established in the UK in 1989.
